The morning of 1000 questions

While riding to music this morning (which was way too long of a ride), I was bombarded with 1000 unanswerable questions.  Of course, we were at Starbucks yesterday and it was all done up for Christmas.  I guess that got a tiny 4-year-old brain going.  Or, not so tiny.

What was Santa’s name before he became Santa Claus?  How does the Easter Bunny get into the house?  What if we made a warren in our front tree - would the Easter Bunny come and live with us?  If the Easter Bunny is, in fact, a bunny, how does he read the list we make for him?  Why don’t we make a list for the Easter Bunny?  Since he’s a bunny, how does he know to get out of the house?  How does he carry all the baskets?  Does he have extra arms?  Why does Santa wear a hat?  Why the big puffy boots?  Does he take his boots and hat off when he goes inside at his own house?  Does Santa sleep all year?  How do the reindeer fly?  Well, they can’t all be magic, so if they are not magic, how do they fly?  Not everything is magic, Mum!!!   How old was Kris Kringle when he knew he was magic?  When did he decide to become Santa Claus?  What did he have to do to be Santa?  What do the reindeer do all year?  I could go on……this was for the entire 35 minute ride.  ~sigh~

It’s one thing if the questions are answerable, but another when I have no clue!

It’s Vetran’s Day on Sunday.  I don’t think we’ll attend any festivities - the kids are too young to understand, but we’ll be wearing our poppies as we have been all month!

the zoo

We spent the day at the zoo with some homeschooling friends.  It was Fuss’s first visit to a zoo and he had a blast.  We didn’t stay overly long and as we were leaving he said “Wow - there is just so much to see at the zoo!”  Luckily we have that resource, and we’ll likely visit often.  Although for Fuss and I it cost $32.  That’s a lot of money for three hours of fun.  But, at least he learned quite a lot.  When Dad arrived home from work, Fuss went on for the better part of 45 minutes about the animals and everything he saw and learned.

As we were leaving, Fuss ran over to watch the rhinoceros wander around his pen.  I had completely forgotten how they actually look like they have movable plates of armour as they walk.  I’m not sure who was more fascinated - Fuss or me!

I unfortunately only got two photographs since I was a bit ‘on my toes’ trying to talk to Fuss about all the animals while chasing the Bug.  One of the other mothers had her (very nice!) camera, so hopefully she’ll forward some photos.  If so, I’ll try to upload some.

Oh - another thing I thought was really neat - there was a crocodile with an improper bite.  His jaw did not come together at all!  Turns out that he was accidentally kept in a part of the zoo with improper sunlight as he was developing.  The lack of vitamin d caused him to be malformed.  I thought it was really interesting considering all the new information about vitamin d - it not only affects us, but animals as well!

October’s done!

I can’t believe October is passed!  The month flew by and I hardly had time to sit down, much less post here.

We had Thanksgiving (when we saw the salmon running, and I was going to also post a photo, but couldn’t figure out how).  We also had two farm visits, a long weekend and great wolf Lodge, visits from family and, of course, Hallowe’en.  My son is currently planning NEXT year’s Hallowe’en - how we are going to decorate the house, what he’s going to wear, what his sister is going to wear.

We also completed the pirate AND a frog lapbook.  We are currently in the middle of a pumpkin lapbook (obviously we didn’t meet the goal of finishing that one on Hallowe’en).

I am going to try to post a picture this time, let’s all keep our fingers crossed!

 Pumpkin Patch!

Hopefully November is a bit quieter!

Enjoying the busy journey,  Amanda
