New Year’s Eve
December 31st, 2009
It’s a quiet one here.
We had an early dinner at my parent’s house and then we came home, the kids had baths and are now going to sleep.
I’m at the computer trying to get my 2009 photos organized for printing and thinking about the year ahead. I’m not really one for resolutions, but I do hope to keep the blog more active. Did I say that last New Years? ~sigh~
Sometimes, though, we just don’t do anything overly note-worthy in our homeschool. For us, each day is an adventure and we learn something new and have tonnes of fun. At the same time, it’s day to day living and not always something to take photos of and tell everyone.
So, in order to post more frequently (and keep it Waldorf-related) I’m going to add posts about other topics, like cooking/baking. I love cooking, so it should make it easy for me. I received a bunch of new cook books for the holidays (yeah, um, I think 10?) and I plan to use them all this year.
I have a thing about cookbooks though, and it must relate back to my years in academia. I have to start the book by reading the introduction/preface/any leading pages and then dig into the recipes……one by one. No matter how painful it may be. I mean, I don’t like liver, but if I turn that page and it’s the next recipe, my family will be eating liver for dinner.
You may have to bear with me true Waldorf folks. Here’s why: I’m a huge Martha Stewart fan. Huge. Two of the cook books I received were hers. I didn’t get more of hers because I already have the rest.
In addition to cooking posts, I might put in a post or two about books I’m reading. I try to read about three books a month. I just finished The Mistress of the Art of Death. There is absolutely no reason to post about that since it was one of my least favourite books ever. And that would include a psychology of stastics book studied back in sophomore year university. I still get a creepy feeling in my spine when I think back to that particular course.
I hope you’ll bear with me as I add to the blog and expand the focus a bit. The homeschooling will still be here, I promise. It’s my main focus at the moment and for the far forseeable future, so it can’t help but be the bulk of this blog. I just think I’ll be able to post more often if I add some of my other favourite things. Who knows? There might be a post or two about knitting! Remember that project I was working on last New Year’s? Well, it’s been ~mostly~ done since shortly after that post. All except for the finishing, that is. You see, I don’t know how to crochet and the edge needs to be crocheted. I went to the yarn store today to get some help but they had beginning knitters working since it’s New Year’s Eve and they didn’t know how either.
A couple of paragraphs ago I mentioned I am a bit pedantic. It applies to cooking as well as to knitting. I’ve not been able to start another knitting project because this blanket isn’t finished. My goal is to have it done by end of next week. Oh! I just made myself laugh…..
I hope everyone has a wonderful 2010. I have a few small goals like scrapbook 2009, tidy/organize the house from top to bottom including any outstanding repairs, spend less time on the computer whilst the kids are awake; but no huge resolutions. I’m pretty happy with the way things are!
Enjoying the journey, Amanda

I enjoy reading your blogposts however often they occur, Amanda–and I for one would enjoy hearing about what you’ve been reading, both good and not-so-good. All the best for 2010!
